Dr. Andrés Ruiz

Hi, I’m Dr. Andrés Ruiz, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

I am most passionate about the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders in adolescents and young adults. Briefly, neurodevelopmental disorders is an umbrella term which commonly includes ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. Individuals with these disorders do not “grow out” of their challenges, but rather tend to “grow into” their deficits. This means that subtle delays may become more obvious as the person ages and the environment begins to demand more than the person is capable of managing. Unfortunately, that put these individuals at risk of developing additional symptoms including depression and anxiety.

By supporting my clients during adolescence and young adulthood I am able to help them minimize barriers to living independent and meaningful lives by helping them develop the skills required to do so. My clients come to me with a variety of strengths and I value the opportunity to supplement these strengths by supporting them in areas of weakness. It is my job to adjust and modify evidence-based practices to the specific needs of each client and their unique ways of processing and learning.

My therapeutic approach more generally focuses on the relationship between our thinking, feelings, and behaviors. When my clients have a better understanding of these connections they are able to try new behaviors or approach situations with a different perspective.

On a more personal note I am passionate about dogs, baseball, cold brew coffee, and cheese. I frequently incorporate humor, metaphors, and analogies to make sure patients enjoy the time they spend in sessions with me.
